American Brownies

50 g Unsweetened chocolate -=OR=- plain dark chocolate
110 g Unsalted butter
2 Eggs; beaten
225 g Sugar
50 g Flour, plain; sifted
1 ts Baking powder
1/4 ts Salt
110 g Chopped nuts **

NB ** Walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds or brazils or any mixture.

Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 4 350 F 180 C. Line an oblong tin, 18x28cms with non stick baking parchment, so that the parchment comes a good 5cms above the rim of the tin.

Melt the butter and the chocolate (broken up into small pieces) together in the top of a double saucepan, or in abasin over simmering water. Away from the heat, stir all the other ingredients into the butter & chocolate mixture thoroughly, then spread all this in the lined tin.

Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, or until a knofe inserted in the centre comes out cleanly (but don't overcook - it will firm up as it cools). Then leave the muxture in the tin to cool for 10 minutes before dividing into 15 squares and transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
